The site is turned to the Atlantic Ocean and has a view to Spain and Minho's river mouth. The main access to the site are narrow. The builing site has 240m² and it is defined by a 70m² ruin. The site is very irregular and the ruin is partially buried in the ground.

The site interventions are based on the place's lifestyle, as well as the countryside and the vernacular style.

Based on the popular portuguese architecture concept, defined by organic dwelling growth, the new house adopts the characer of the place and the traditional construction methods. The ruin, the stone, thesteel and zinc define the tectonic of the new building, assuming time as material part of it. The main goal is to preserve the memory of the place. This way, the organic feeling of the stone growing form the soil defines the sense of an ancient presence.

The material truth assumed by the apparent shale walls gives way in the new walls to zinc, which over time has skated, darkening the color and dimmer reflections . However, it is a material that reflects the light of a more intense way than shale, setting a luminal contrast that values formal options interrelating the new and the old. Shale appears as an aged brown skin, the long furrows and beautifies the meaning of life and zinc, has the playfulness of a smooth skin, bright. The concept of space was very conditioned by the specific features of the terrain, boundaries and also topographical.

The surrounding is marked by single family and small scaled construction Our choice recognized the scale motivating a building that not creates a rupture with the environment but instead assumes the dominion  of the ruin.

All walls facing south were torn to bring to light spaces and to open to the landscape.
The glass appears as the material that binds the stone and zinc.

The house is organized in 85m², defined by the absence of circulation (these are integrated within the different spaces). Access to the house is through the upper floor, where is located the living room and a bedroom. The lower floor is defined by the kitchen with eating room, a toilet service and two suites. These last two rooms open on the west quadrant, overlooking the pool and the river. One of the rooms contrasts the gaps of the old building with a large glassed tear.

The pool has an irregular shape relating to the geometry with the house and with the ground. It is on the slope appearing suspended on the form of a balcony in Korten steel that levitates above the landscape. When we swim, the visual continuity is established through continuity between the pool water over the water of the river.
