Rear Facade Concept Eight Architects Vorgarten

This project sits on a private road, in a fantastic plot which drops down to the River Thames. Concept Eight secured planning permission which was strongly resisted by local residents, for the original non descript low lying bungalow with a new 3 storey family dwelling. with commanding views onto the River Thames and Hampton Court gardens.

The house consists of a dramatic triple height atrium as soon as you enter the house, which then opens up onto hallways and landings on all 3 floors. The ground floor consists of a large kitchen and dining, a family room and games room as well as a large self contained studio. On the first floor there is a large master suite wing with his and her walk in wardrobe. At the other wing of the house there are 2no. kids bedrooms and a guest suite. At the centre of the first floor is an elevated garden room and terrace with fantastic views onto the river and garden. The top floor contains further bedrooms and family rooms.

Carefully curated materials forms the building envelope, with the use of crisp white render, contrasts with the black timber cladding which is a modern take on the local riverside vernacular. We have then added a slate roof and extensive use of glass to the rear with the whole of the back of the house having the ability to open onto the garden and river.

Light floods the house and almost all of the rooms inhabited by the family will have framed views of the garden and river. Internally we have introduced timber cladding and timber flooring in the main living areas as well as tall crittal glass doors to aid in ensuring the river views are seen from as many spaces as possible.
