Clients owned very imposing and well known property on the Hill within the Harrow on-the-Hill conservation area and wanted to make some improvements to the exterior and carry out an extensive refurbishment of their lower ground floor accommodation. Kevin worked closely with the owners before the start to completely overhaul and re-design all exterior elevations to provide a more clean look by removing wires and excessive external pipework to let the charming features of this lovely property shine. None of us could have known the extent of the refurbishment when we started and what followed was 13 months of painstaking and loving improvement and renovation involving a team of up to 20 people at times!

Kevin had developed a very strong theme for the exterior and was passionate about getting the look right. The base around the property was rendered at some point in recent history and Kevin suspected that this was covering up many problems. To the front elevation the existing render was improved, the gutter replaced with no downpipes and planned for 2015 is complete overhaul of the front steps. The side and the rear were where most of the works took place with new cills in Portland stone, replaced brick arches, tuck pointing to all brick arches, a complete re-point in lime, removal of all poor brickwork from the bottom two storeys at the rear, removal of all render to side elevation and replacement with a lime based brick slip system to replicate the original red band of bricks we found after taking off the render. Introduction of a Portland stone string course. The chimneys were re-built, the roof slates changed from artificial to natural and further the driveway was landscaped with new stone capped brick piers.

Internally, a completely dry-lined tanking system was fitted over an excavated and insulated floor fitted with wet underfloor heating. We were blessed with a Client who had trained in interior design and, as you can see from the pictures, the execution of our work, although of an exceptionally high standard, is made to look even more so by the extremely tasteful interior fittings and decoration. We went on further to provide newly fitted bathrooms and Kevin was heavily involved in salvaging the original sagging staircase with a wobbly handrail, which has now been fully restored and serves a purpose exceptionally well.
