This impeccable design is the work of Rio de Janeiro-based architecture firm FPR Studio. You'll find it hard to believe, but the images we're about to take a look through are, in fact, computer generated renders of design. So realistic is the portrayal that one wouldn't be scoffed at for mistaking them for photographs.
The design is for the complete renovation of an apartment that is located in a neighbourhood town of Rio de Janeiro. The brief called for an extensive makeover of the entire space, the integration of living, dining and kitchen and the expansion of the external areas. And, that it has achieved in these alluring renders. Let's take a closer look…
It's a material wonderland: natural timbers are combined in novel ways, raw concrete makes the occasional appearance, as does exposed brick. The selections and combinations are as fresh and contemporary as they are sophisticated and classic.
The layout opts for a free-flowing open-plan arrangement. But, it's not just one undifferentiated mass. Instead, various design elements are incorporated to make the space adaptable, allowing division and connection to enter into a fluid interplay.
The large sliding doors allow the kitchen to be opened and connected to the greater living space, or neatly tucked away behind their timber screens. Allowing the inhabitants to adjust the spaces to suit their needs and wishes, the home meets the many changing demands of modern living.
The kitchen itself opts for a minimal design. Glossy white and black surfaces eschew handles in favour of a streamlined aesthetic. It's crisp and clean!
Back to the living room: the parquet floors definitely steal the show, rendered in different tones of timber, they shoot a dramatic zig-zagging pattern through the space.
The rest of the colour palette picks up on the soft neutral tones, with the only vibrant splash of colour making it's way in through the wall art.
And now to the master bedroom – simple and refined. Clean, sharp lines cut through the luminous space. The all-white aesthetic is briefly broken up by a concrete and timber wall element.
Every detail is masterfully resolved, the storage is carefully considered, and there is even a workspace. There's not much to fault in this beautiful bedroom.
Before we close the book on this tour, let's take a look at one last bedroom. It's as beautiful as the last! The storage has been given equal consideration, a workspace is, again, included, and clean lines abound. The winning feature has to go to the bookcase that forms the bed base – what a clever design detail.
