For some people the shower is the most important ritual of the day. Whether it's the first thing you do in the morning, waking you up for a fresh start, or a means to unwind and wash away the stresses of the day, it's important that your shower is relaxing and pleasant. However we don't always take the care we should when designing our showers, tending to come from a utilitarian perspective rather than seeing an opportunity for exciting design ideas and luxurious comfort.

That's why today we're going to change all of that, and look at some really stunning showers. The key to a good shower depends on the size restrictions and decor of your bathroom, but there's a few consistent necessities like good lighting, warmth, water pressure, and easy access – after all a slippery shower can be dangerous to get in and out of!

So let's take a look at the amazing work of our homify experts and see what they've come up with!

1. A double shower

This super luxurious bathroom features a bathtub, an enclosed toilet, and two shower heads! Double showers are a great idea for couples, especially if they have similar schedules, meaning they don't have to wait in line for the bathroom. This shower also features a bench, which will always be welcome after a long day at work.

2. Tiles

Tiles are a fantastically versatile material for showers, providing a sleek surface that's easy to clean, but more importantly providing endless design options. Whether you stick with one colour, use the tiles to create a mosaic or simple geometric pattern, or go for a busy pixellated look like they have here, tiles look fabulous, and can be suited to your taste.

3. A white shower

White is really the perfect colour for showers as it becomes immediately obvious when it's time for a clean, which is really important to maintain hygiene. But more importantly it's simple and striking from a design perspective, and can be infused with different colours and hues depending on the light and the time of day, as we can see from the soft pink glow here.

4. Industrial

This super fashionable and futuristic example is a stunning use of industrial style in the bathroom. The raw concrete is distinctive and modern, and unifies the whole room, with the shower separated by a glass door. This shower is spacious, easy to access, and even features a recessed shelf for shampoo.

5. Red wine

The hardwood look is always a winner in bathrooms, and provides a bathhouse feel that is perfect for de-stressing after a long day. Note that the shower uses different wood than the floors, this is because the extreme moisture can cause wood to swell and rot, so you will have to talk to an expert to find a properly treated and water resistant wood. Hardwood looks great with a number of different colours, but the red wine tiles here are really impactful and give the room a contemporary energy.

6. A curving shower

This unique design features a sweeping curve from floor to ceiling, and we think you'll agree it looks amazing. Featuring a white and red tile pattern that is further expressed in the recessed panels by the wash basin, the vertical stripes provide an interesting and dynamic visual effect.

7. By the window

Obviously privacy is an issue here, so this idea is probably just for those of us in high rise apartments or private homes in the countryside, but a window in the shower is a great way to keep the bathroom light, bright, and fresh, not to mention providing beautiful vistas! A perfect way to ensure you have a delightful experience every time you step into the shower.

8. A natural bathroom

Featuring river stones, a vertical garden, and a lovely understated stone aesthetic, this shower looks more like a tropical getaway than a bathroom. To really feel like you're in paradise when you step in the shower we recommend going with a natural theme, plus it makes watering the plants a lot easier!

9. Colour gradient

The last shower we're going to look at today features a very modern approach to design, featuring the blue colour gradient. It looks clean, fresh, and modern, and we just love it.

As you can see the shower can really make or break a bathroom, and these success stories are nothing short of inspirational! For more great design ideas check out this guide to shabby chic!
