Clean and restore the important parts of your home

Whether you hire professionals, or attempt so of these options yourself, it's always a great idea to clean and restore the parts of your home that are large and make a lasting first impression.

Some options:

Clean and restore hardwood floors

Clean and restore any pathways, sidewalks and driveways around the home

Clean and restore all window units

Deep clean all baseboards and heating fixtures (radiators, etc;)

A little paint goes a long way

We love serious home improvement projects that are full of integrity, however, sometimes the simplest of tasks will do. Go to your local paint store and speak with a specialist, or look through homify for the season's newest colour trends Stick wtih two or three colours within in the same colour family (like seen in this entry corridor) and you can easily cover cracks, scratches and any other cosmetic issues!

Stuck in a studio or student-style apartment and find yourself craving a full kitchen or work area? Well, with the clever multifunctional furnishings that exist now, that can easily be fixed! Consider. Slide-out kitchens like seen above, furnishings that double as partitions and bookshelves, or a wall unit that pulls down into a full-sized desk. Small space is no excuse for not getting everything you want and need out of your home.

Upgrade your kitchen appliances to be more eco-friendly

One of the more expensive options on this list, upgrading your kitchen appliances to have more eco-friendly and sustainable standards is a top priority in 2016 – one of which we're hoping transfers into 2017 and beyond. Yes, these types of appliances will cost you more money up front, but in the long-term the money you will save will be enormous compared to the starting investment.

Consider refrigerators, ovens, stoves, juicers and compost mechanisms that will make your kitchen both top-notch in design and the best in reducing a carbon footprint.

Check and install new windows for maximum efficiency

This option also follows in line with the above option for its concern about sustainability and energy efficiency. Too often we see homeowners moving into homes and not replacing windows when they should be replaced, or simply not fixing any issues with pre-existing ones. This is a huge no-no and should be taken seriously. Not only will this reduce your heat usage in summer if your windows ar better quality, but as seen here, a fresh set of windows can give your look a sophisticated ad modern touch!
