Today we’re visiting a small apartment located in Dortmund, Germany, which underwent an incredible refurbishment. Turning an obscure and small apartment into a brilliant space, with lots of light and style, is not an easy task. However, the home stagers behind this project, RAUM², knew exactly what to do. Let’s take a look…
This was the situation in the kitchen before the remodel, and as we can see it was fairly empty with limited natural lighting. The challenge: to overcome these obstacles without spending much or undertaking any major changes.
Even without changing the finishes and equipment, the kitchen has a completely new look! To solve the issue of lighting, RAUM² chose to install fixtures at key points in the space. For example, a main pendant lamp on the dining table is combined with the smaller lights on the work bench to aid in everyday tasks. The effect is to create a warm and inviting atmosphere; turning the kitchen into a place you want to spend time in.
The decor is a mix of modern and retro design; a combination chosen to match the older equipment. The bright colours included in the design create an interesting contrast with the darker floor and countertop.
The situation in the living room was similar to what we saw in the kitchen, although a little brighter thanks to the presence of a light floor.
Following the remodel the old floor has been replaced giving the environment a fresh, modern look, as well as brightening the room by reflecting light. As with the kitchen the décor is constructed of light and dark colors, this time the black sofa and the vinyl records on the wall contrast with the beige carpet and the light wood floor.
As we can see, the transition from the living room to the bedroom is through an opening without a door; this makes the space interesting as natural lighting can permeate through the rooms, as well as making for a fluid and natural transition between spaces.
With the addition of a new floor the sense of continuity between the living room and the bedroom has increased. The position of the blue armchair was well calculated; imagine how delightful it would be to sit there in the sunshine and read.
The environment in the bedroom is much the same as the rooms we have seen previously: modern spaces that are well-lit and welcoming. The colour palette is largely responsible for the pleasant ambiance with light wooden tones and blue accents creating a warm, comfortable atmosphere.
Take a look at this astonishing apartment transformation for another brilliant before and after home remodel.
