If you've invested in a home, either renting or buying, then the time will come when you'll decide to make some minor changes for a better quality of life. Especially if you've recently purchased a home, quick fixes that add a special touch to both the interior and for curb appeal will only raise the value of your home over time and if you ever decide to make a change or move, you could possibly see yourself gaining a lot more money!

Luckily for you, there are plenty of ways to improve your home on a budget. From redesigning your kitchen, to choosing the right paintings and statement pieces to great DIY projects, here are eight amazing home improvements you can make for under RM450!

Boost kitchen storage

One of the biggest complaints we hear about kitchens is a lack of storage. Kitchen storage can be hard to come by, and one wrong move can make your kitchen look too cluttered and messy.

You need to be smart and strategic when planning kitchen storage ideas. A lot of the best options use the drawer and cabinet space you already have.  Use separators inside drawers and cupboards wherever you can to keep food, silverware and utensils organised, and consider installing hanging units for regularly used utensils in order to keep them accessible and clean.

Of course, the example we've shown here is a great size, but if you take a closer look you'll see that the interior designers have used all space in order to store everything – from wine to baking spices and fresh herbs. Think small and think functional!

Painting

Paiting is truly one of the easiest ways to change your home and for a minimal cost. There are several ways  to instantly revamp your space – we will list some below for quick ideas:

1. Paint everything white for a fresh start

2. Consider painting a feature wall in each room a bold colour

3. Keep your colour palette light and neutral in smaller rooms and gradually get darker as you move into larger rooms

DIY bookshelf organizers

Books are a great way to keep yourself happy and entertained, but did you also know that you can use them as a design feature? Consider organising books according to a colour code, or by subject in order to get the most out of your book design.

If you own a lot of books, large and small, then create some DIY bookshelf organisers. All you need is simple wood and metal elements to make the most out of your drab bookshelves, and as with any DIY project, they are completely customisable!

Closet organisation

It's important to consider the parts of your home that guests and friends rarely see when you're trying to redesign and redecorate your home – it is, after all, your home! Closet organisation is key to starting and finishing your day the right way and it can be a project with easy installation and minimal costs.

Go to stores where shelving units are abundant and cheap, or better yet, hire a handy friend to come over and make proper measurements and get the project started for you. Here we have chosen a rather narrow space to show you just how possible and versatile closet organisation can be, and if done right, you can remove the dressers and cabinets in your bedroom, giving you more space in your sleeping area!

Spruce up the entryway

The entryway. The portal into your home, the place where guests and friends form an impression of you and your life.  We cannot say enough how important it is to make this one of the best-designed parts of your home. If you're lucky enough to have a larger entryway and corridor, use this to your advantage as this designer did.

Don't think small, functional items are the only way to go. Purchase some smaller-sized retro furnishings to give guests a relaxed feeling when they enter your home, add an area for shoes, some unique light fixtures and for a special touch, add a carpet runner with a great design that can interplay with some statement wall art!

Backsplash

A kitchen backsplash tends to be a small enough area that you won't need to purchase too many tiles to give the right effect. In this case, the smaller the backsplash, the luckier you are.  Choose some ceramic or subway-style tiles as seen here for a modern and clean look.

If you're feeling a bit more daring then try a more unique tile design – just make sure to choose tiles that are budget friendly so you don't break the bank on one design feature.

Install some cool lights

Lighting! Lighting is a key feature in any home and as a bonus tip, really play up the use of spotlights and solar-powered landscape lights for the exterior of your home for a great first impression.

Not only should you combine elements of both natural and artificial light in your home,  but you should take the time to accent and highlight the best features of your home. Have outstanding crown moulding? Why not run track lighting along the outline to show it off?  Proud of your art collection? Place removable spotlights above your art works and unique items to give them a real boost.
