2:2 Chair

Two parts American, two parts German, and so simple

that no tools are needed, 2:2 is the lovechild of a Cleveland girl with her roots in steel and architecture and a German guy with his in carpentry and furniture design. The idea was hatched over video chat. The frame was manufactured in industrial Cleveland, and flown 4,000 miles so girl and guy could put together the pieces directly after her 8-hour flight. 2:2 is no bold statement. Maybe it says “I don't have much room in my apartment, but my guests are cool enough for more than a folding chair”. For this guy and girl it says, “We don’t know where we will be next year, but 2:2 can always pack up and go with us”.

The frame has the iconic shape of a simple chair when on the wall and has the seat and back stored between the legs, both of which are interchangeable so there is no way to mix up the pieces. Then with a few snaps the chair can be expanded, and a solid, full size chair takes its place.

The name is exactly how this chair came together. 2 parts German and 2 parts American with a few clips to hold it all together.
